Microsoft's Cancel Cross-Platform Gaming Project?

Postby Miller » Fri, 23 Jul 2010 10:44:30 +0000

All you wannabe pro gamers can take solace in the fact that as bad as you might be there is some evidence to suggest you are still more capable than your console counterparts... Maybe.

A report on Gizmodo.com has said that a Microsoft initiative that was designed to see console and PC gamers square off against each other was cancelled after the PC Gamers smashed the Xbox players every time.

Perhaps the problem lay in the way the competition was set up. The PC team were allowed to use their mouse and keyboards while the Xbox team had to use their console controllers. This seemed to confer the PC users with a significant advantage, something that has been talked about in the competitive gaming scene for years.

The story came to light after it was rold on Rahul Sood's blog.

The founder of Voodoo PC, which was acquired by HP in 2006, summarised the story by saying:
Rahul Sood wrote:I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their "console" controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse.

The console players got destroyed every time. So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative.

Rahul Sood wrote:That's not entirely surprising to anyone who's fragged on both platforms—Matt Buchanan says "i'd slaughter anybody using a controller if i had a keyboard and mouse"—but it's interesting nevertheless to hear just how thoroughly the Xbox gamers supposedly got their asses whooped.

You can read the full story here while whispering to yourself how just damned pro you are.

heh yea saw that yesterday as well, pretty hilarious still think cross platform gaming would be better than single platform. Always knew mouse + keyboard pawned controller (at most games)! :D

Yea I saw this posted at Kotaku too and it's really old news, which makes me wonder why it's come up now. Slow news day?

Cross Platforming was the sole reason for Windows Live!, making the PC have an Xbox Live Experience and allow cross platforming. But it isn't any surprise that Windows Live! failed and PC gamers would wipe the floor with Controllers and the only people who didn't realise it was Microsoft (the genesis for gaming as we know anyway).

Becoming more and more apparent that PC gamers are leading the way in common sense and we have Roids on our side

Old news when the guy has only just posted a blog about it a couple of days ago! There were rumours about this, but having a HP CTO post about it is completely different.

YEa he might just be posting about it, but cross platforming like this was covered back when Dawn Of War 2 came out.
