A report on Gizmodo.com has said that a Microsoft initiative that was designed to see console and PC gamers square off against each other was cancelled after the PC Gamers smashed the Xbox players every time.
Perhaps the problem lay in the way the competition was set up. The PC team were allowed to use their mouse and keyboards while the Xbox team had to use their console controllers. This seemed to confer the PC users with a significant advantage, something that has been talked about in the competitive gaming scene for years.
The story came to light after it was rold on Rahul Sood's blog.
The founder of Voodoo PC, which was acquired by HP in 2006, summarised the story by saying:
Rahul Sood wrote:I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their "console" controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse.
The console players got destroyed every time. So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative.
Rahul Sood wrote:That's not entirely surprising to anyone who's fragged on both platforms—Matt Buchanan says "i'd slaughter anybody using a controller if i had a keyboard and mouse"—but it's interesting nevertheless to hear just how thoroughly the Xbox gamers supposedly got their asses whooped.
