Spiffy, i think the biggest changes from SupCom and SupCom2 are:
New Engine. It uses Demigods game engine. This isn't all bad, it's much updated with alot nicer graphics and the map designs have been improved immensely, very pretty game and i think Supcom looks great!.
Maps. In Supcom you could have 81x81km maps. So far we haven't seen this in Supcom, also from the demo the maps have more in them, making then seem structured and orderly, but very interesting to look at. Less choice in how you want to build your base when you are on a platform with 2 bridges leading from it. Have to see if the scale is still there on release.
Resource income has changed now, more like a generic RTS. You require Energy and Mass to build things, but instead of buildings needing Energy to Run and there being a constant +/- of income versus expense, now if you want to build something you 'buy' it from accumulated resources. Factories can also be upgraded with turrets, shields and radars etc...
You also build research Stations, which act like upgrading buildings. The more you build, the faster you'll gain research points to spend on unit upgrades, unit unlocks etc. Want to increase Radar Range? No longer do you build a tech 2 or 3 Radar tower, you research and buy 'increased range'.
Defenses have been screwed over. Turrets are basically Tech1 and look awful and even upgraded don't look as cool as the changes between T1-T3 in Supcom. The same with Anti-Air and Shield Gens. Just doesn't seem as good as Supcom...
Mini Experimentals. It's hard to tell from the demo if the Experimentals you build are the minis or main ones. I've seen Experiemental Gunships, Flying Factory, Exp Aircraft Carrier and Fatboy Mk2. All were taken out piss easily and the destruction they caused was insignificant compared to upgraded Fighters. I think because the Fighters are the same as what you build at the start, but upgraded by the end, it just feels like T1 battles. Because of that 20 'T1' Fighters upgraded taking out Experiemental Gunships, just seems weird.
They've tried to add a backstory and improved the single player alot. Of course i'm hoping multiplayer will be less linear, but the campaign seems interesting.
In all i can't wait for it, but i don't have the money to buy it yet. Until then Supcom is still great :p
